To attain ICA20105 - Certificate II in Information Technology - the following 14 units (8 Core units and 6 Elective units) must be achieved.

This qualification is the training package for individuals who aim to work in the Information Technology Sector. The experience and competencies gained are designed introduce students to the vocational requirements of IT. Successful completion of this qualification provides a pathway into the Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Information Technology.

The above underlined units are prerequisites for the following IT qualifications:
ICA50505 Diploma of Information Technology (Database Design and Development)
ICA60205 Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security)
ICA50705 Diploma of Information Technology (Software Development)

For HSC equivalent students with no background in IT the above underlined 9 pre-requisites are delivered before the starting of Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications at Aces Centre. Students must demonstrate competency in all these 9 units before starting the above Diploma or Advanced Diploma. Upon successful completion of these units a “certificate of Attainment” will be issued. Students may continue for another 3 weeks (total of 12 weeks) to achieve competency in the other 5 Elective units shown above in Italic to obtain Certificate II in Information Technology qualification.

1 Term: Each Term is 13 weeks including breaks. The tuition weeks in this course is 12 weeks. This brochure needs to be read in conjunction with Aces Centre other brochures and documents.

Aces Entry Requirements are:

  • Being 18 years of age or over
  • English Language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or higher
  • At Aces Centre we provide 12 weeks English course
  • Successful completion of 12 years of schooling or equivalent to the Australia Higher School Certificate (HSC)

Fees and Charges:
Students must enrol on a full-time 20 hrs per week basis. The qualification details for a Certificate II in Information Technology are as follows: (Australian Dollars):
Cost:

  • $2,000 for the Certificate II in Information Technology (12 weeks)
  • Deposit: The students are asked to pay the tuition fees in full for each qualification preferably 3 months before the starting date.
Payment arrangements: Direct Deposit into Aces Centre Pty Ltd bank account.
English: $2000 for 12 weeks Certificate III in Spoken and Written English.
The payment of all fees and charges are receipted and dated at the time of payment. Accurate records of individual students’ payment of fees are maintained and secured. Students who wish to discuss the possibility of taking only some of the Units of competency or discussing recognition of Prior Leaning (RPL) may contact Aces Centre office.

Support Services:
Aces Centre will provide students with general advice on matters such as travel, accommodation, employment and personal welfare. In addition a comprehensive orientation will be under taken at the beginning of the students learning time, covering all concerns and issues related to studying at the Aces Centre. In addition, Aces Centre Club membership provides students with an economic means for accessing text books related to their course.

Aces Centre Club:
Aces Centre Club Membership is compulsory for students. The Club will provide students at the beginning of each term their main text books. Students may keep the book for the term or can purchase the book at a discounted price from Aces Centre Club. Every student needs to return each book in the same condition it has been given to him/her. If the book is damaged or lost a penalty of $75 will be applied and deducted from the bond. The compulsory club membership cost is $750/annum that includes $150 for the bond. Students with no penalty will receive their bond money at the end of their education at Aces Centre.

Teaching Methods:
The learning support strategies used by trainers at Aces Centre include:
  • Classroom instructions (maximum of 12 students per class)
  • Demonstrating procedures.
  • Providing opportunities for ‘hands-on’ experience and practice.
  • Ensuring individual support and advice to students.
  • Encouraging students to work at their own pace.

Course Timetable:
Certificate II in Information Technology is a 12 weeks course. Students must attend full-time (20 hours per week) for the duration of the course. Students can enrol before the commencement of any of the following terms for Certificate II of Information Technology, if it is available.

Assessment Methods:
Assessments are conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the ICA05 Training Package and the Australian Quality Training Framework Standards for RTOs. Assessments are competency based, which means that the outcomes of assessment are Competent or Not Yet Competent. At the Aces Centre assessments are:

  • Valid: Assessment techniques actually assess what they claim to assess.
  • Reliable: Assessment approaches provide consistent results every time.
  • Fair: The same assessment is used for each learner or situation, while still being flexible.
  • Flexible: Different types of assessments are used to assess the student – e.g. verbal, doing, question and answer.

Job Roles:
The qualification provides foundation general computing and employment skills that enable participation in an information technology environment in any industry. Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) will find the contents of this qualification useful at an ICT user level. In its own right such a qualification could equip an individual to undertake roles such as office assistant or to work in records management at a junior level; however its usefulness is most likely to be found in supplementing.
